Carlus Padrissa, founder and artistic director of La Fura dels Baus, presents this week at the Artpark festival his furan version of Carmina Burana together with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Artpark’s resident conductor Gil Rose, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Choir, which will provide the essential voice.
O Fortuna, velut luna statu variabilis (O Fortuna, you are as variable as the moon)… thus begins the circle of what is perhaps the most popular work of the 20th century: Carl Orff‘s Carmina Burana, a work written on the 13th century texts that speak of the earthly pleasure of living, wine, love and desire.
In this work, Carlus Padrissa, proposes a faithful reading of the texts. “From La Fura dels Baus we have created a show with strong scenic images, with the intention of illustrating and illuminating all the strength and poetry of these texts, which despite being more than 800 years old, speak of desires that unite us back to the ancestral highest of our species… the circle closes to continue rolling,” explains the director.
Tickets for the show are available on Artpark’s official website.
