Theatre and immersive video merged into one format is complementary for an experience of terror. Carlus Padrissa, seeking to surprise, proposes a new challenge- an exploration of sensations of fear and unease for men and women of today. Video or theatre? Where does the screen end and the actor begins?

The experience is visual and physical. The overflow of the imagery unites the two disciplines into one. In this innovative version, with 360-degree projections, immersive sound and artists share the space with the audience. La Fura dels Baus presents this surprising proposal in a revolutionary To Be or Not To Be format. Here the scenery is digital and the audience is situated in the center of the action, surrounded by actors and actresses who interact with them. The digital audiovisual contents that we will see during the show are the work of La Fura. The audiences will experience it in a whole new way through an immersive production presented in an open-plan venue, with surround sound system and 360-degree projections. The cast performs alongside members of the audience, who become witnesses and protagonists of the experience, forming all together a surreal effect.

We are used to blindly believe in the realities that we see on the screens. It is not al- ways easy to distinguish truth from the reality. Fear drags us to unexpected places in our minds, transforms the values learned for the sake of survival. We have to defend ourselves from what? From a virus? From poverty? From an emigrant? From the different? From the unusual?… What do we do? Do we close everything, mind and doors and isolate ourselves? We stay in? Do we not share? But finally, when we lack it, will we learn again what is the real mean- ing of the word freedom?

Terror is the distressing disturbance of the mind due to a real, fictitious or imaginary risk. When fear has overwhelmed the brain’s controls, it’s difficult to think rationally. What is the benefit of being blocked by fear and, in any case, who benefits? In Hamlet, by the hand of Shakespeare, one reflects between reason and madness, the forces of destiny opposed by chance, the confrontation between good and evil, the doubt between freedom versus responsibility, life and death… La Fura with its immersive, physical, real and virtual theatre, proposes the experience that will show us how to overcome fear and not die trying, and the rest is silence.
