The Daughter of Heaven tells the story of the occupation of the Isla de Gran Canaria by the peninsular Spaniards. This plot led La Fura to use a setting capable of recreating the period without resorting to physical elements, capable of converting history into a space of memory. For this they relied on three large chrome screens, capable of evoking any space based on a series of previously made recordings, which were complemented by a series of large pieces of tulle that distorted the images and reinforced the dreamlike aspect of the scene.

Although the opera tries to offer a happy ending, where peaceful coexistence between peoples is possible, La Fura dels Baus wanted to clearly convey the genocide of the Guanche people and their identity.

La Fura dels Baus received a commission to stage the first opera conceived and produced entirely in the Canary Islands, with music by Juan José Falcón Sanabria and libretto by Guillermo García-Alcalde. The challenge lay in successfully combining a radically modern composition with a classic libretto.
